MINKS are an alternative band from New York. It’s composed of Sean Kilfoyle (vocals, guitar), Amalie Bruun (vocals) and they are fantastic. Their first record "By The Hedge" was released on January 14, 2011, and their second record "Tides End" was released August 5, 2013. This is the music video for the song "Margot" and I can’t get it out of my head. -Izz

Tennis is an American indie pop band from Denver, Colorado. It consists of husband-and-wife duo Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley (I know, they’re adorable). Their first studio album “Cape Dory” was released on January 2011, their second album "Young & Old" was produced by Patrick Carney from The Black Keys and it was released on February 2012. Their most recent accomplishment is a 5-track EP titled "Small Sound" and this is the music video for an AMAZING song called "Cured of Youth". I’ve been loving these guys for some time now, I remember when "Origins" was featured on a Grey’s Anatomy episode and I couldn’t wait to check them out ‘cause I loved the song so much. -Izz

Slothrust is an American grunge band from Boston, Ma. This power trio consists of Leah Wellbaum (vocals, guitar) Kyle Bann (bass) and Will Gorin (drums). Their first album "Feels Your Pain" was released in May 2012, and this February 18, 2014, their brand new record called "Of Course You Do" will be released (you can pre-order it here). This is the new single called "Crockpot", and I gotta tell ya, it’s absolutely fantastic, it makes me wanna pick up my guitar and rock my socks off. I’ve always liked them A LOT but after this awesome song & video I can tell…it’s true love. -Izz

The Chevin is an English post-punk revival band hailing from Leeds. Formed in 2010, the band is composed of four childhood friends who derived their name from The Chevin, a ridge overlooking their hometown of Otley, West Yorkshire. Since 2010, these guys have toured with huge acts, such as Franz Ferdinand, White Lies and The Airborne Toxic Event. Their first single (featured in this post) from their debut album Borderland has been featured on FIFA 13’ soundtrack, iTunes “Single of the Week” and The Huffington Post’s Top 52 Songs of 2012.

With so much success in such little time, there’s no doubt that these guys will transform into a powerhouse. If you like bands with a twang of The Killers, a dash of Coldplay and a hint of Franz Ferdinand – then you’re going to love this band. Check them out! – KJ

Phantogram I feel as though I’ve featured this band before (and I probably have since they’re one of my favorites), but I feel obliged to further showcase their music.

Phantogram is a duo formed in 2007 in upstate New York. They described their sound as “street beat, psych pop.” According to Josh Carter (vocals, guitar), their music has a “lots of rhythms, swirling guitars, spacey keyboards, echoes, and airy vocals.” Actually, that perfectly describes their sound. The arrangement of their unique tunes are paired together with Sarah Barthel’s (vocals, keyboards) hypnotizing voice, creating music that you can’t help but to move to.

Check them out. I hope you like them as much as I do! If so, go see them live… they’re fantastic. - KJ

Smallpools is a new band out of LA that is making some pretty big waves. The band formed in early 2013 and released their first single “Dreaming” in May (which reached #23 on Billboard”s Alternative Songs chart. In July they released a 4 song EP through RCA with each track being just as catchy as the last. Last week the band posted this video of an impromptu acoustic version of “Dreaming” on a piano in the lobby of a movie theater in Glendale that is a must see. They are currently on tour with Walk The Moon and The Mowgli’s, which is sure to be an amazing tour. -AI

New Beat Fund I actually couldn’t find much about the history of this band, but I came across their official bio - which was too good NOT to use for this blog.

"New Beat Fund birthed when a piggy bank with the words “New Beat Fund” encrypted on it was catapulted into the facade of a corporate building. No joke. Somewhere in that transaction it became apparent a jar full of “fuck you’s” and “I owe you’s” would no longer lend it’s help to an artist. So we started our own fund; no debts to the bullshit, just a direct deposit from your’s truly and the people who vibe what it is we’re doing. And what exactly are we doing? We’re letting our music run free, streaking down the beach, nuts hangin’ in the Cali breeze, smokin’ Cali trees. We shimmy shimmy to the sounds of the Timby, some Red Chili, Slim Shady, and one Foxy ass Lady. Reppin’ real music flowin’ from an honest place. Keepin’ true to who we are, how we’re feeling, what we’re seeing around us and the way we react to it. Everything New Beat Fund is done 100% by New Beat Fund. Burnie Baker, Fat Snapz Lalib, Buttonwill McKill, and Silky Johnson. No need for specificity. So vibe some tunes, whether you’re coolin’ with your gurl or partying with your friends, this is for you. Have a good time, that’s what we’re doing. Thanx for donating. Peace. NBF $($)$”

Hope you enjoy these guys! They’re fun! - KJ

CHVRCHES are a Scottish electronic band from Glasgow, formed in 2011.  The group’s debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, was recently released last month. They’re just starting to break into the scene; but in a very big way.

They cite their influences as Prince, Robyn, Depeche Mode, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Kate Bush. If you mix up all of those influences with a dash off Passion Pit-esque beats and the fantastic vocals provided by Lauren Mayberry, you get CHVRCHES. Check them out, folks! - KJ
